CHANDIGARH: Its considered a good management practice when bosses care about their subordinates. The UT police, however, is faced with tension between two IPS officers precisely due to this. IG SK Jain and SP (traffic) Hardeep Singh Doon are said to be at loggerheads. Sources say that is because a fortnight ago, the IG had ordered Doons personal assistant Bhupinder Singh to swap his post with an assistant at Right To Information branch Jaspal Singh.
Officials said Doon had not relieved the personal assistant.
In recent times, there have been allegations of institutionalization of corruption in the traffic wing. Sources said many new steps had been initiated at traffic nakas to curb graft. Transfers were also being carried out to ensure this. Sources said the PA was transferred after complaints of corruption by him started reaching the IGs office.
Police officials added that Bhupinder had been at the post for 14 years and there was an election commission rule that required transfers of people after two years of posting.
However, Doon insisted, There is no dispute on this. The matter is pending with officials and it would be cleared once the file reaches me.
Officials at IGs office also said there was no dispute. They added that Jain had not suspended or revoked the transfer orders.
Doon said he had no filed any requests for retaining Bhupinder as his PA.
However, the UT police documents revealed that Doon had not relieved his PA and had not let Jaspal Singh take over the post despite his reporting to the SP twice.
Jain said he intended to take up the issue with the SP.
Earlier, there have been reports of DSP-level groupism in the UT police.
